Whoopi Goldberg should be fired from “The View”, say ABC insiders, according to a shocking report from Page Six, which is a New York Post affiliated website. Sometimes reports can be refuted or denied and we must add that disclaimer.
That being said, Page Six is a reliable source that likely would not put their name on the line for nothing. In midst of a shakeup, after Meghan McCain left, and “The View” is on a search for a female conservative host, Whoopi recently made offensive Holocaust comments saying that it was “not about race”.
“What bothers me most about this whole @WhoopiGoldberg (who btw I’m a fan of)… is it’s a non-Jewish person telling us what the Holocaust is…..if this was the other way around— the person would be off the show and cancelled by society.”
“Whoopi last night on Colbert: Nazis “had issues with ethnicity, not with race, because most of the Nazis were white people, and most of the people they were attacking were white people. So, to me, I’m thinking, ‘How can you say it’s about race if you are fighting each other?’”
The ADL’s Jonathan Greenblatt is furious but also “accepts her apology”:
“Whoopi Goldberg (stage name) begins The View today by apologizing for her comments about the Holocaust. “I understand why now, and for that, I am deeply, deeply grateful because the information I got was really helpful and helped me understand some different things.”
The first guest of the show was Anti-Defamation League CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt. Here he explains to Whoopi how the Nazis viewed Jews as “a subhuman race. It was racialized anti-semitism.”
“Thanks @WhoopiGoldberg for correcting your prior statement and acknowledging the #Holocaust for what it was. As #antisemitism surges to historic levels, I hope we can work together to combat ignorance of that horrific crime and the hate that threatens all.”
However, sources tell Page Six that staffers and fellow hosts on “The View,” as well as insiders at Disney, are furious that Goldberg has not been disciplined.
“ABC staffers and Disney Network execs are saying Whoopi went way too far. And board members are not happy with her apology and want a fuller retraction. The word is that Whoopi is in ‘deep s–t,’” one ABC insider told us.
“Why does Whoopi seemingly get a pass when others don’t? Perhaps this time she won’t. Many at the network — including her fellow hosts — believe Whoopi is too controversial now for the show.”
The insider also told Page Six that the situation “isn’t just going to blow over.”
“This will cast a shadow over everything for a while. Even Joy Behar was heard saying backstage that Whoopi is ‘dead wrong’ and may not ever recover from this,” the source said. “Joy found this particularly troubling and couldn’t believe Whoopi wouldn’t stand corrected until she was forced.”
According to the insider, others at ABC are “incredulous” and allegedly asking questions like, “How stoned can she be?”
“Her agents are panicking that she may have ruined herself for good,” the source claimed. “Plus, now she has to worry about potential death threats.”
Stay tuned for possible updates on this major development.
