Duran is the only one MLB player to ever throw an off-speed pitch at 100 mph.

The 100.8-mph “splinter” that Jhoan Duran threw at Alex Verdugo Monday night was the first off-speed pitch in MLB history to exceed 100 mph, according to Minnesota Twins communications director Dustin Morse.

According to Baseball Savant, not only is Duran leading the majors this season with an average sliver speed of 96.2 mph, but his four-seam fastball is also leading the majors with an average speed of 100.7 mph.

His curveball is second in baseball an average speed of 87.7 mph.
